Political Slogans and Environmental Editorials

Content of slogan editorial:For fifty years psychologists and in particular sexologists, are trying to systematically describe the sexual habits of modern wealthy people.
And for fifty years you also see in magazines, newspapers and on TV the most absurd allegations about sexual activity.
We all supposedly have a sparkling sex life.
For example, results are published along the lines of: "The average person has sex 3 times per week."
There are some questionable ambiguities in the sex research. Or is this unrealistic image caused by distorted publications in magazines or on TV.
For example, what is meant by "has sex"?
• a) Does this mean: actual intercourse between 2 people?
• b) Or does this mean: masturbation by 1 person?

And what does "The average person" mean?
a) Are the results of men and women lumped together? It is a hard fact that women, generally speaking, need sexual satisfaction less often than men. Except, of course, the modern, emancipated woman with unbridled sex drive. At least, as she is portrayed in some flashy magazines, which try to keep their own fairy-tale alive (even women's magazines!).

b) Are the measured results of young and old levelled out? Because, there may exists differences in sexual activity between age cohorts. In the course of life his or her needs may change.

c) Are the scores of heterosexuals and homosexuals being mixed up? Because active gay men may have more sex than married heterosexual men. Gay men may have other sexual habits, which are lumped up in some studies together with heterosexual statements.
Moreover, it is also important to find out whether the study population contains bisexual persons. Because there is a large group of men who benefit from two sides: at home they have wife and children.
In addition, they are also found in the bushes by parking lots along motorways. Here they find other gay or bisexual men in order to satisfy each other's desires. If these people fill out questionnaires, they will mess up the baseline of results.

d) Is the research into sex habits of ethnic communities or religious groups mixed up, from the point of view of socially desirable outcome?

Until these matters are not clarified with regard to investigations into sexual activities of human beings, it is clear: sexology (as part of psychology) is not a mature scientific discipline.
Obfuscating factors that stand in the way of sexological research in the form of questionnaires or interviews, include:
• a) Big talk by certain subjects, or the giving of social desirable answers by respondents.
• b) Social desirable attitude of certain researchers, for example with regard to gay studies: the outcome of this research may not get processed separately because the results may stigmatize homosexuals. Is this attitude not a disgrace for universities that are looking for the objective truth?

In addition to possible socially desirable attitude of researchers, the concept of ""psychological defence mechanisms"" may play a roll.
Dr. Sigmund Freud had concluded already a century ago that most people cannot accept the naked truth. He formulated some defence mechanisms through which the human mind protects itself against harsh reality to make life more bearable with regard to psychological distress. And scientists are mere human beings, sometimes with a high IQ but low EQ.
Some researchers will interpret their research so that it fits within the boundaries of the emotional coping mechanisms of their own ego. Not only certain scientists are to blame, but certainly also some journalists or editors.
For example, those who edit scientific findings, in order to place them in newspapers or popular magazines, or on radio or TV show.
Some columnists rape the truth by cherry-picking only the sensational facts, and publishing them out of context.
This way, they keep the myth about sex drive alive.
Furthermore, it is possible that results are furbished to please paying customers.

All in all, many statements about sex habits, as you read them in newspapers or hear on radio or during TV programs, might be quite unreliable.

It is an interesting challenge for scientists to refine their interrogation methods in questionnaires etcetera, so that they can avoid the above mentioned pitfalls.
Thus they can clarify the objective truth in the interest of the maturity level of human culture. And then remains the challenge to get this truth published in an 'uncensored' way by the media!
