| Content of slogan editorial: | In Holland, the Flower Power Generation started up the trend of an anti-militaristic attitude in the Sixties as a radical part of the Cultural Revolution. This aggravated into anti-authority attitude.
First left-winged students uttered their opinion as ‘freedom of expression’ and ‘tolerance for dissidents’ as opposed to the hardworking middle-class of the Fifties. They voiced their standpoint as ‘opposing discrimination of minorities by the narrow-minded bourgeois’.
This ‘freedom and joy mentality’ degenerated into unbridled unrestraintness. And the ‘nothing is impossible and anything goes attitude’ was especially emitted in the realms of journalism, radio/TV and art with regard to authorities and moral values. Certain persons even promoted pedophilia in those days! This is a typical example of Sickly OverCultivation of society.
TV-moviemakers had found a new market -the Youth- to which they appealed by exaggerating pubertal issues, like revolting aggressively against their parents and teachers. Later children of secondary schools took over this lack of respect for parents, teachers, police and adults in general.
The overcultivated pedagogues of those days stimulated this with the argument that you should not stand in the way of the development of their creativity: "Children should not be inhibited, but should develop a ‘free will’. You should not punish them but bring them to reason." Parents were not even allowed to hand out a corrective slap to their disobedient child. That is another example of Sickly OverCultivation of society. This way kids did not learn boundaries, respect, let alone politeness.
These children grew up to become egocentric, brawling big egos that had learned to shout over others and take what they wanted from life with the pubertal attitude of 'I do what I like, and nobody is going to stop me'.
This trend evolved from licentiousness into riotousness and even changed into lawlessness.
Certain brawling big egos became parents with no respect for teachers. This attitude rubbed off on their rude kids. So, if people cannot bring up children properly, they should NOT have had children in the first place!
Only in the Nineties, people started complaining about the lack of respect among high school kids. And in the next millennium a contra-movement emerged from the right-winged side of politics. This discontent was already smoldering for some time, but left-wing activists suppressed these people with verbally aggressive arguments such as:
- These people were narrow-minded fascists, because they wanted to restrict others in their rights.
- These people were intolerant racists, thus being accused of discrimination, because many of the lawbreakers were foreigners or belonged to an ethnic minority.
But all that these people desired was clear-cut laws that would punish asocial, misbehaving people, hooligans, and genuine criminals, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. They also had a need for better rules against rude amuck-runners and sneaky Social Parasites who misused 'the system'. So, all they wanted was the cultural attitude of 'respect for each other' back into society. Furthermore, a cry arose for a change in general psychosocial mentality, namely that adults should take full responsibility for their own deeds or parents for the misbehavior of their children'. Too long, authority has been a dirty word. But kids should learn the boundaries of misbehavior from their parents, if need be, by force.
